A trend for weekend conferences that has emerged from the US continues to grow in the UK. Given that it is hard to name professions where work-life balance is not an issue these days, the idea of organised events taking place at the weekend can seem like a bad idea.
On the other hand, there is an argument that access to learning outside of the traditional working week can be positive for busy self-employed individuals, as it can mean avoiding loss of earnings during the week – assuming that you’re not already working on Saturday!
At a weekend conference at the end of June organised by the Northern Branch of the CIPD, Real World Group Chief Executive, Professor Beverly Alimo-Metcalfe, enthused the audience with a keynote on her perspective on the role of positive psychology in increasing organisational performance, and the critical role Engaging Leadership plays in this process.
Other speakers included Innocent Smoothies and Nita Clark, co-author of the MacLeod Review of Employee Engagement.
For attendees, a copy of Beverly’s slides are available on our Resources page, or can be downloaded directly here.
