Professor Alimo-Metcalfe will speak at the SPDS [Annual Conference] in St. Andrews, Scotland on Friday 3rd November 2017 around the abstract; ‘White water rafting – Leadership in the age of distraction’

The seminar will explore how organisational leaders might have been selected at a time of less turbulence, but now have to support and nurture their staff through the ‘rapids’ of a VUCA world (volatile, uncertain, ambiguous, complex), with extraordinary pressures on resources, combined with higher expectations from their communities. She will also share the learnings from Real World Group’s recent research in the NHS as to what distinguishes individuals and teams that deliver high quality performance/care at times of complex change, and how those in leadership roles can create the healthiest environment for them to flourish, rather than flounder.
